The month of October

The first two months of the school year was extremely difficult for me because I got sick and was unable to attended classes for the first few weeks. I thought there was no way I could continue the semester so I planned on taken a break. After looking at all the disadvantages I soon changed my mind and decided to keep all my classes. Now looking back I think this was good decision I made because now I am halfway done with school. I learned an important lesson here, which is to always give yourself the benefit of the doubt and to keep strong no matter what life throws at you. Personally, I like to look at things at a positive view, because the negative view brings nothing but stress. After I return to school I was able to catch up in my classes, just happened to have lost a lot of sleeping hours.

Finally the semester is coming to an end

The month of November has come to an end with all of its ups and downs. This semester has been the most difficult semester I have ever had. It was impossible for me at times to find the time to do all that was expected of me to do. Time seemed too short for me to do my internship, read all my assessments and work at my job. With all this I still had to find time for family and myself. I personally feel like at times teachers do not focus on our long-term memory but rather our short-term memories. I feel like at times its better to know a small amount of knowledge very well then to know a little of a lot. The school system however, seems to focuses on more on due dates and assessments rather than helping a student acquire on building long-term knowledge. This semester for example I did not get much out of it because I had no choices but to fucess more on getting the work done then learning the material. I mean its kind of my fault but I am only a human theirs only so much I can do in such short time.

Overall I am just so happy this semester is coming to end. Inshallah (God willing) things will be different next semester. I am also hoping to go back to work because I took a few weeks off to focus on school. But most of all I am looking foreword to the break I cant wait to have time to rest my mind and recharge my mental batteries.

Rollercoaster

The past few months’, life has been a rollercoaster but however, it has been the greatest moments I’ve ever had. I learned so much about myself, my purpose in life and I always tried to take the best out of every situation no matter what life hit me with. My eyes are open to everything that’s good and I am grateful for my health. When you’re unable of doing everyday basic things, you start to think of what you took for granted. My health, family and friends, my ability to go to school and carry on with my day are some things I never appreciated. With this experience, not only have I gotten to that stage in which I can say I’ve become aware of my surrounding but also, I’m more grateful to what God has granted me. One improvement I’ve seen in myself was how I viewed life. I took every moment, every step, and every breath as if it was my last. My mind is so clear now something I have not had for years and I learned to take life one day at time; don’t worry about tomorrow because tomorow is nothing more than an empty promise.

The Social Work program is amazing and I love that I’m taking a class that I am passionate about. Everything seems to come together. Currently, I intern at this center which helps women who arrived from their home countries. In my position, my main job is to get the younger children ready for school and in hope that they may grow up to become righteous, smart, and loving adults for their parents. I also help find resources for the mothers who attend the center. Mostly, the families we help are called free cases. They came here with no one and they have to survive on their own in a country where every part of their life is faced with difficulties. Going to the market, getting out of the house, and finding clothes to wear is a struggle they have to deal with on a daily basis. It is our job to help them find these resources and also, provide for them whatever we can. We help them with everything even if it is paying for food, going to the doctors, give ESL lessons, translating their mail/letters in their native language and most of all, finding them a place to call ‘home sweet home’. This program has been great at helping these women find there independent and I’m proud to be partaking in a great center.
